Demolition work began early Monday morning! See below for details!
GETTING STARTED! Demolition of our office building began
early Monday morning, as a crew from Men & Machines began tearing down the
old structure. By mid-day Tuesday about a quarter of the building was left
standing. By the time you read this, the building will be gone! As sad as we
are to see it go, we're excited about moving into the new building that will
soon take its place! In the meantime, we're operating out of our Annex
office at 2743 Dune Drive...Call or email me anytime!
We'll move into our brand new office building next year!
THE WETLANDS INSTITUTE and Executive Director Dr. Lenore
Tedesco are featured in an article about salt marshes and rising sea levels.
The article discusses a number of ways to combat loss of wetlands, including
depositing material dredge from navigation channels onto nearby wetlands to
increase their elevation--a technique that has been tried behind Avalon &
Stone Harbor by the Army Corps of Engineers and the Seven Mile Island
Innovation Lab under Dr. Tedesco's lead. You can read the article here:

THINKING OF SELLING? NOW IS A GREAT TIME! Our market
remains busy--purchase demand remains very strong, and interest rates remain
low. "Why not wait until the spring?" you might be thinking. Buyers are
plentiful and low inventory levels right now mean you'll have less
competition as a seller! Plus, if interest rates rise to combat inflation it
could hurt affordability, dampening demand. If you'd like to discuss
selling--or just want to know what your house is worth, please call or email
me!
TOYS FOR TOTS: Long & Foster will continue our long
tradition and conduct a Toys for Tots campaign to provide holiday gifts for
children in need. If you'd like to participate, stop by our Annex office at
2743 Dune Drive with a new, unwrapped toy Monday through Saturday, 9am to
5pm, or Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Help brighten the holiday of a child!

Bold colored flowers highlight the beauty of this Avalon home and its
architectural details. Warm ocean temperatures help keep flowers and
landscaping vibrant later in the fall season compared to inland areas.
SALES AND RENTALS remain strong in our local market.
Purchase demand is still high, with low inventory levels the only key factor
holding back sales. The demand for vacation rentals that we saw in 2020 and
2021 has continued, and the 2022 vacation rental season is off to a very
strong start. What are your plans for 2022? If you're planning to buy, sell,
or rent please call or email me!

SAINT MARY BY-THE-SEA, the red-roofed Cape May retreat,
will become the Cape May Science Center as part of a deal reached between
the Sisters of St. Joseph and a newly formed non-profit group, according to
a Philadelphia Inquirer article. The 138-bedroom, 38,000 square-foot
structure was slated to be closed by the sisters, but after learning it was
not in danger from the ocean, they began looking for ways to preserve the
retreat building. Future development of the site will not be permitted. Read

THE MID-ATLANTIC FISHERIES COUNCIL meets periodically to
develop recommendations on possession limits, size limits, and seasonal
opening and closing dates for various species of fish. On November 10th the
Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass committee will meet via webinar to
discuss its recommendations for those species in 2022. The council uses
various methods to track catches, and then recommends modifications to catch
limits in order to best ensure viable future stocks of fish. Webinar details

2021 FISHING has been widely considered to be a good
season, including offshore fishing for tuna. If you're on Facebook, check
out this brief video of bluefin tuna feeding on by-catch tossed off the deck
of a scallop boat last month. The size, speed, and power of huge bluefin
tuna is amazing!

RUNNING MAN: 60-year-old Ed Wickersham ran the 130-mile
length of the Jersey Shore, from Sandy Hook to Cape May, achieving a
lifetime goal. After training for his dream run, Ed says he found the
four-day run along the coast to be easy, because he enjoys the shore so
much. A quarter-mile boat ride across Barnegat Inlet, where there is no
bridge, helped, but Ed reports the hardest part of the run was finding a
ride to his starting location each morning after a 3am wake-up call! Watch a
short video about Ed's run here:
